Remodel will include development and tornado recovery work

George Elementary School celebrated an upcoming remodel at a groundbreaking ceremony today on the site of the school's former exterior gym.

George Elementary School was struck by an EF-3 tornado March 30 2022, resulting in damage to the school’s roof, exterior, playground, cafeteria and entrance awning. The school’s exterior gym was completely destroyed.

A school remodel was planned prior to the tornado and will include planned development, as well as tornado recovery work. The projected project will impact areas that include the school’s gym, library, kitchen, main office and music classroom.

The remodel will cost about $11.2 million and will be paid for by insurance proceeds, district funds and state partnership funding.

Dr. Jared Cleveland, Springdale Public Schools superintendent, Justin Swope, George Elementary School principal, School Board members and representatives from Core Architecture and Milestone Construction attended the event. Family members of the school’s namesake, Gene George of George’s Inc., were also in attendance.
