Current and former staff and students gathered for the John Tyson Elementary School is Golden: Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence event at May 8.
“The students have planned and worked on the event for almost a year,” Boogaart said.
The student-led celebration included a proclamation from Mayor Doug Sprouse deeming the day “John Tyson Elementary School Day;” speeches by Dr. Jared Cleveland, Springdale Public Schools superintendent, and Shelly Poage, John Tyson principal; photos of teachers and staff who’ve worked at the school from 1972-2022; the debut of an original song composed for the celebration by a fourth-grade EAST student; a time capsule event; and a reception.
The name of the school’s new tiger mascot, TYSON, was also revealed at the celebration, which was voted on by John Tyson students.
Members of the district administrative team, the School Board and former John Tyson teachers and staff attended the event as well.
Dr. Jared Cleveland, Superintendent of the Springdale Public Schools, announced a new principal wall to be installed in the school's foyer. The purpose is to highlight the great work of the administrators from day one to the current day.
