Springdale Public School students were recognized for their creative suggestions for influencing change through the annual Reflections Arts Competition.

The National Parent Teacher Association’s Reflections Program encourages over 300,000 pre-K through 12th-grade students to create original works of art in response to a student-selected theme annually, according to the nonprofit’s website. The program has been featured for more than 50 years and helps students explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.

This year’s theme was “I will Change the World By…,” said Jennifer Boogaart, John Tyson Elementary School EAST facilitator.

“The contest is a powerful tool for encouraging students to explore and be involved in the arts,” Boogaart said.

Felix Suel, John Tyson Elementary School fifth-grader, entered his photo in the Intermediate Division of the Photography Category and received third place for Arkansas.
